Feeling Helpless

A couple of days ago, I read an Associated Press news release saying that the Santiago highway department is ending its search for the Hero Dog of Costanera Norte Freeway. Here's the kicker: Even though the video was posted on the web on December 5, the video was filmed back in March.

If you've been out of the buzz of the Internet for a while, here's one link to the video on the Huffington Post: Dog Saves Dog

"That is just not right!" I screamed at the monitor. That's not right because I have only started my search for the dog ... "our" dog, as some are calling him now. It's just not fair to stack the odds against me in my search by sticking in months and months of lost time -- time in which anything could have happened, even his death.

In the past week, I have asked questions in the comments section on the Huffington Post, emailed TerraTV (who first published the clip on the web), emailed the Santiago highway department, the Chilean government, the Chilean tourist bureau. I got a couple of emails back. One from the highway department telling me to forward my email on to some other email address. One from a nice lady named Fiona at the Chilean tourist bureau, telling me she would try to find out what happened. I realize that I would do better if I could speak Spanish.

I emailed Animal Planet's Dogtown and I've emailed and written a letter to The Discovery Channel, trying to convince them to find out what happened to "our" dog, pleading with them to put an end to the story.

My new friend Ginger (I met her on a blog) wants to pay half my airfare to Santiago. She's sweet and she's as sad and frustrated as I am. Yep, misery loves company, but we're both tired of crying every day.

Still every day I put in a search on Google for any new postings, trying to get a new idea -- trying to get any idea at all. I want that dog safe.

I so want that dog safe.
